As Another Year...

... was drawing to a close, I packed my bags and whizzed off to stay with Big Sister in Kent.

She had been busy throughout the year producing these extraordinary artworks; highly decorative and not for the timorous collector.

An annual ritual is to leaf through the family albums. I came across this picture of our grandparents, parents, and their cousins. I hadn't noticed before, but I think this is a Hillman 14 DHC with a dickey seat. The radiator and 'H' script gives it away. Funny how I ended up with a 14 too.

My sister's husband is an enthusiastic collector of vintage electronic equipment and one of his recent acquisitions was this 'Vidor' attaché case wireless...

... its original 90v battery and associated internals, still in good shape.

I've been a bit lazy about my walking schedule of late, so took the opportunity to go around the block whilst the rain kept off.

The Other Wright Brother has been completing the build of a free-flight Tiger Moth kit into which he'll introduce electric and r/c. This time last year he was finishing a Stearman - whether that has flown yet, I haven't heard.

I always leave Kent with a bag of goodies and a Christmas cake. This cake is steeped in alcohol and is legendary amongst friends local to me. Knowing about this, they're not behind the door in coming forward for a slice. I have to ration it strictly to make it last until Easter.

Now back at home, I'm tackling all the tedious jobs I couldn't muster enthusiasm for before Christmas. The brass inserts for the dash extensions...

... the 6/80 glove compartment lid...

... and the heater distribution box which appeared to be mocking my hesitancy with a demented grin.

Boxes are always awkward to fold...

... but I got there in the end. As usual, I thank all my readers for their continued support and I hope everyone who follows 'A Special Builder's Notes' has had an excellent Christmas. I wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year.
