State Of Play.

Circumstance dictated that progress with the new arrangement for the Buick's starter motor would be delayed. Chumley was up to his eyes in work that paid better than sausages, so my bits and pieces were put on the back burner.

The Other Wright Brother sent a picture of the nearly completed Bi-Fly.

We thought that the graphic on the kit's box would look good on the fuselage sides, and the maker's name, 'Precedent', on the upper and lower wings would be sufficient decoration.

This week, aviation was very much in the air - so to speak - and it was good to see the L4, in which I spent so many happy hours, in fine trim at its Norfolk home.

We had a lot of fun with it.

A Chilton Monoplane, one of two resident at the airfield, was a work of art.

A scrap fuselage frame from a Stinson L5 Sentinel lurks in the undergrowth. A fully restored example is also resident.

Learned Counsel's 2CV van is revealing its past as the paint is being stripped and the colours of the Spanish flag emerge. 'ANTIZA SU CALIDAD', translates roughly as 'Antiza [probably a surname] your/his quality.' We haven't quite worked out what the lozenge shapes are meant to represent. A receipt for a pitch in a local market was found under the driver's seat, so further research will illuminate.

I was unable to attend a local auction (and thus restrain The Great Collector) so in a break with tradition, an early 20's 350cc Raleigh Semi-sport rebuilt to museum standard, has appeared in his garage. I'm looking forward to a whizz around the field.

Mr Laken has stripped his 6/80 ready for painting. Being in Australia, winter is now approaching and picking the day to spray will be critical.

Between all these distractions, I managed to fit the rest of the body formers on the Special. I think I'm going to just go ahead and start rolling panels (he said breezily, as though it were a mere trifle) ...

... so the windscreen frame is in position; next is fun and games with door frames.
